Sam Bird of McLaren ruled out of E-prix, Barnard to replace him

NEOM McLaren driver Sam Bird’s hopes for the Formula E championship took a hit as he was ruled out of the Monaco E-Prix this weekend due to a hand injury sustained in a crash during the first free practice session. The British driver collided with the wall at turn two, forcing him to withdraw from the race.

In a statement released by the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team, it was confirmed that Bird would not be able to participate further in the event and would undergo medical evaluation for his injury. As a result, reserve driver Taylor Barnard will step in to drive the #8 car for the team.

Barnard, who impressed during the FE rookie practice session at Misano, will now have the opportunity to showcase his skills on the prestigious Monaco circuit. The young British driver is also competing in the Formula Two feeder championship, making him a promising talent for the team.
