Sanders clinches second place as Flivvers lock in conference championship

The Kingsford girls varsity golf team had a triumphant day on Monday as they clinched the Greater Northern U.P. Conference title at Pine Grove Country Club in Iron Mountain. With a score of 388, the Flivvers outperformed Marquette, who finished in second place, along with Escanaba, Menominee, and Gladstone in the top-5.

Bryonna Sanders shined for Kingsford, securing second place with an impressive 89, while Abby Luke from the Sentinels took home first with an 86 and was named GNC Player of the Year. Grace Maki also had a strong showing, finishing in fourth place with a score of 92, followed by Maddy Zeuske in eighth place with 102, and Ella Rizzo in 12th with 105.

Post-meet honors saw Maki and Sanders named to the GNC All-Conference first team, with Zeuske earning second-team honors. On the boys’ side, Kingsford finished fifth in the GNC season with a cumulative score of 343, with Marquette claiming first place with 304.

Lance Harry and Nick Doran led the Flivvers, tying for 10th place with a score of 82. Harry was the sole selection for the GNC first team. The team now looks ahead to the U.P. Finals in Marquette on May 29 to close out the season.

Overall, it was a successful day for the Kingsford golf teams, with both the girls and boys showcasing their talent and determination on the course.
