Sandpiper, a leading Asia Pacific communications consultancy, has made a significant move by expanding its business into the Middle East, setting up shop in Dubai to cater to the region’s growing needs for specialized communication services.
Founded in 2019, Sandpiper has quickly established itself as a major player in the communications and public relations industry, boasting a team of over 100 professionals spread across eight offices in Asia and Oceania. The decision to venture into the Middle East was driven by the increasing trade ties between the region and Asia, particularly with China, prompting the need for a local presence in the United Arab Emirates.
Emma Smith, the CEO of Sandpiper, highlighted the strategic importance of the expansion, stating, “Our growth aligns with the expanding trade and investment relationships between the Middle East and Asia. We have witnessed a rise in demand for our services in the region, especially in areas such as ESG communications, international media, integrated communications, policy advisory, and research.”
Heading the Dubai office are Bahjat Homsi, who joins as General Manager for the UAE, and Unice Liu, who takes on the role of Associate Director. Homsi brings a wealth of experience from his previous roles at top network agencies, including Edelman in Dubai, where he worked on high-profile projects such as the Emirates Mars Mission and the UAE Papal Visit. Liu, on the other hand, has a strong background in multi-market communications and stakeholder engagement, having worked across various sectors such as finance, government, and healthcare.
Homsi expressed his excitement about the opportunities in the UAE, stating, “The evolving landscape of the UAE presents numerous opportunities for organizations, and there is a growing demand for communication consultancies that can provide unique value and help clients navigate this dynamic market. Sandpiper’s specialized services, strategic approach, and extensive network across Asia and the Middle East will set us apart.”
Liu also shared her enthusiasm for the new role, emphasizing the importance of connecting the opportunities between the Middle East and Asia amidst the shifting geo-economic and geopolitical landscape. With the Middle East increasingly turning towards Asia, there is a clear need for communication experts who can bridge the gap and facilitate growth between the two regions.
Sandpiper’s expansion into the Middle East follows in the footsteps of other international firms, such as Prosek Partners from the UK and Pelham Communications, who have recently entered the market. With offices already established in key Asian cities like Hong Kong, Beijing, and Singapore, Sandpiper’s move into Dubai further solidifies its position as a global player in the communications industry.
As the Middle East continues to forge closer ties with Asia, the presence of firms like Sandpiper will be crucial in supporting businesses and organizations in navigating the complexities of these evolving markets. With a strong team in place and a focus on delivering tailored communication solutions, Sandpiper is well-positioned to make a significant impact in the Middle East region.
