Santa Barbara Tennis Supporters Recognize Graduating Class

The Santa Barbara Tennis Patrons recently recognized a group of Cleveland and Franklin Elementary School students as the first graduating class of community tennis players. Despite the challenges of learning tennis, these kids showed remarkable growth over the five-month program.

Lisa Aviani, a staff member, commended the children for their perseverance and teamwork as they received their certificates. Parents like Lianna Contreas noted the positive impact tennis had on their children, teaching them valuable life lessons.

The program, in partnership with the Santa Barbara Unified School District’s A-OK Program, offers free tennis lessons to underserved children aged 8-17. The Patrons aim to inspire a love for the sport early on, hoping the kids will continue playing in high school and beyond.

To celebrate the end of the season, a friendly competition between Cleveland and Franklin took place, with the Cleveland Dolphins emerging victorious. Despite the loss, both teams displayed sportsmanship by shaking hands over the net.

The Santa Barbara Tennis Patrons plan to sponsor ten children for the Summer Tennis and Swim camp, further nurturing their interest in the sport. Executive Director Greg Tebbe praised the kids for their dedication and progression, emphasizing their genuine interest in playing the game.

The ceremony concluded with a pizza party, where the kids put their new racquets to the test. The event showcased the children’s commitment to improving their skills and highlighted the success of the program in fostering a love for tennis among young players.
