Santa Rosa, California has been recognized as one of the best places to live in the United States, according to a recent report by U.S. News & World Report. The city, located in Sonoma County, was ranked number 127 out of 150 cities on the list of “Best Places to Live in the U.S. in 2024-2025.”

The report analyzed data on quality of life, job market, and value to determine the rankings. Santa Rosa scored highest in the job market index, with a score of 6.7 out of 10. The city also scored well in the quality of life index, with a score of 6.5, and the value index, with a score of 4.5. Overall, Santa Rosa received a rating of 5.7.

According to U.S. News & World Report contributor Jessica Zimmer, Santa Rosa is a hub of economic activity in northern California’s wine country, attracting artists, young people, retirees, professionals, and those interested in wine and high-tech manufacturing. The city’s favorable weather, access to outdoor activities, public art, museums, live theater, and live music options were all contributing factors to its ranking.

While Santa Rosa offers many amenities and a strong job market, the report noted that the city has lower housing costs compared to median household income than similarly sized metro areas.

Other California cities that ranked high on the list include San Francisco, San Diego, San Jose, and Santa Barbara. On the lower half of the list were cities like Los Angeles, Fresno, and Stockton.
