Sanya Tourism Board Expands Overseas Tourism Market in the Middle East

In celebration of “5.19 China Tourism Day,” Sanya Tourism Board embarked on a mission to the Middle East to conduct a series of marketing and promotion events for Sanya’s overseas tourism in 2024. From May 13th to 26th, the board organized the Sanya Food Festival in Dubai, the Sanya Food & Culture Exchange and Promotion Week, tourism promotion events, and business visits to tourism associations, enterprises, and chambers of commerce representatives. These activities aimed to showcase Sanya’s unique tourism resources and cultural charms to a wider audience in the Middle East.

This marked the first time Sanya ventured into the Middle East to carry out cross-border tourism marketing and promotional events, aligning with the “China-UAE Jointly Constructing the Belt and Road Initiative” initiative. By leveraging the international aviation hub in the Middle East, Sanya aimed to expand its passenger sources in overseas markets.

The Sanya Food Festival in Dubai stood out as the highlight of the series of overseas tourism marketing events. The ‘A Bite in Two Cities’ Campaign, a thematic activity jointly launched by Sanya Tourism Board, Dubai Tourism, Atlantis Sanya, and Atlantis Dubai, focused on the fusion of cuisine as a medium for collaboration between the two cities. This cross-border cooperation deepened exchanges in tourism, culture, commerce, and trade between Sanya and Dubai.

As part of the campaign, chefs from Sanya and Dubai Atlantis exchanged destinations, introducing authentic culinary experiences to tourists in each other’s cities. The “Sanya Food Festival” in Dubai featured dishes such as Wenchang Chicken, Hele Crab, and Qingbuliang prepared by Norman Yu, the Executive Chef of Atlantis Sanya, delighting Dubai’s tourists with a taste of Sanya’s cuisine.

Simultaneously, the Sanya Food & Culture Exchange and Promotion Week showcased Sanya’s cultural characteristics through displays of traditional crafts, clothing, tea tasting, and interactive experiences. The event attracted active participation from Dubai citizens and visitors, generating interest and desire for Sanya as a tropical resort destination.

Moreover, the 2024 Sanya Overseas Tourism Promotion Event in the Middle East, held at Atlantis, Dubai, saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Sanya Tourism Board and Rayna Tours, a local travel agency in the UAE. The MOU focused on strengthening flight connections, mutual transportation of passengers, and developing the culture and tourism industry between the two destinations.

During their visit to the UAE, representatives from Sanya Tourism Board engaged with several large travel agencies and media outlets to discuss cooperation opportunities and marketing strategies for the tourism markets of both regions. The strategic location of the UAE as an important partner in China’s Belt and Road Initiative makes it a key inbound tourist market for Sanya.

In conclusion, Sanya’s efforts to expand its overseas tourism market in the Middle East demonstrate a commitment to fostering international partnerships and promoting cultural exchange. By leveraging the unique offerings of Sanya’s tourism industry and engaging with key stakeholders in the Middle East, Sanya aims to attract a broader audience and establish long-term cooperation for mutual benefit.
