The Minnewaska boys tennis team suffered their first loss of the season on Monday as they were defeated by the Sartell-St. Stephen Sabres with a score of 5-2. Despite entering the match with an impressive 14-0 record, the Lakers couldn’t maintain their winning streak against a strong Sabres team.
The Lakers managed to secure victories in singles competition, with Drew Bleick and Carter LeClair winning at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively. However, the Sabres dominated in doubles play, winning all three matches and ultimately clinching the overall victory.
Minnewaska, currently ranked No. 6 in the Class A Minnesota High School Boys Tennis Coaches Association team rankings, will look to bounce back as they host Montevideo on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m.
In another exciting match, the Alexandria boys tennis team secured a close 4-3 win on the road against Becker, improving their record to 9-4 for the season. The match came down to the wire, with two matches requiring a final set to determine the winner. Owen Gilbertson won his three-set match at No. 1 singles, while the duo of Donovan Rousu and Scott Hrubes emerged victorious in their three-set match at No. 3 doubles.
Alexandria is set to face Brainerd on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m., aiming to continue their winning momentum. Stay tuned for more updates on high school boys tennis action in Minnesota.
