Rwandans Commemorate 30 Years Since Genocide, Reflect on Legacy

KIGALI (AP): Rwandans are marking the 30th anniversary of the genocide that claimed the lives of an estimated 800,000 people, as the small East African country continues to grapple with the aftermath of the massacres.

President Paul Kagame, who led the rebel movement that stopped the genocide and seized power, will lead somber commemoration events in the capital, Kigali. Foreign dignitaries, including former US President Bill Clinton and Israeli President Isaac Herzog, are also in attendance.
