Charlotte Men’s Tennis pulled off a thrilling 4-3 victory over Florida Atlantic in the quarterfinal matchup of the American Athletic Conference Championship. The hero of the match was Frederic Schlossmann, who staged an incredible comeback after losing the first set and trailing in the second set. The junior from Germany won nine of the next 10 games to secure the win for Charlotte and advance them to the semifinals.

After defeating the three-seed Owls, the six-seed Charlotte team is now set to face 10-seed Tulane in the semifinals on Saturday, April 20 at 12 p.m. noon. The 49ers are just one win away from making their second championship title match appearance in three seasons.

Schlossmann’s victory was made possible by additional singles wins from Vasco Prata, Coy Simon, and Ivan Dreycopp. Simon got Charlotte on the scoreboard, while Dreycopp and Prata secured crucial wins to set up Schlossmann’s deciding match.

The win over Florida Atlantic was particularly sweet for Charlotte, as it marked revenge for the Owls knocking them out in the Quarterfinals of the 2023 Conference USA Tournament. Despite the Owls’ national ranking, Charlotte swept them in the season series this year.

With the semifinals against Tulane looming, Charlotte will look to continue their impressive run in the conference tournament. The team’s success under head coach Kyle Bailey has been notable, and they are now just two wins away from potentially clinching the conference title. The path ahead is challenging, but the 49ers are determined to make their mark in the American Athletic Conference.
