School of Nursing’s MSN Program Ranked 10th and DNP Program Ranked 11th by U.S. News

The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing has once again solidified its position as a top-ranking institution in nursing education, according to the latest U.S. News & World Report Best Graduate Schools rankings. The School’s Master of Science in Nursing program maintained its impressive No. 10 ranking from the previous year, while the Doctor of Nursing Practice program climbed two spots to No. 11.

In addition to these overall rankings, six graduate specialties offered by the School were also recognized in the top 10. These specialties include Nursing Administration, Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, and more.

Dean Maria R. Shirey expressed pride in the School’s continued recognition, attributing the success to the dedication of faculty, staff, students, alumni, and supporters. She emphasized the commitment to excellence and innovation in nursing education, which sets the School apart as a leader in the field.

The School’s achievements extend beyond graduate programs, with the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program also earning a top spot at No. 7 in the country. This ranking not only highlights the School’s national standing but also makes it the highest-ranked BSN program in Alabama.

Furthermore, the School’s research efforts have been recognized with a top spot in the National Institutes of Health funding rankings for U.S. Schools of Nursing. With $10.3 million in NIH research funding for fiscal year 2023, the School ranks No. 4 among public schools of nursing and No. 7 overall.
