Scott Drew chooses to remain at Baylor despite reported offer from Kentucky

After much speculation and anticipation, Scott Drew has officially announced that he will not be leaving Baylor to take over as the head coach at Kentucky. Drew, who led the Bears to their first NCAA tournament title in 2021, has been with Baylor since 2003 and has become a beloved figure in the community.

Kentucky had zeroed in on Drew as their top choice following the departure of John Calipari to Arkansas. The Wildcats even went as far as sending a private plane to pick up Drew’s family members in Texas, but ultimately, Drew decided to stay put at Baylor.

“In our program, we strive to put Jesus first, then others, then ourselves,” Drew said in a statement. “We truly believe God has called my family and I to continue our work here at Baylor, surrounded by the best people and community anyone could be blessed to have.”

Drew’s decision to stay at Baylor comes as a relief to the Bears’ fans, who have grown to admire his leadership and coaching abilities over the years. In his 21 seasons at Baylor, Drew has amassed an impressive record of 446-244, including two Big 12 regular-season titles and a national championship.

With Drew’s commitment to Baylor, the Bears can look forward to more success on the basketball court and continued growth under his leadership. Kentucky may have missed out on their top choice, but Baylor fans are undoubtedly thrilled to have Drew staying put in Waco.
