Search for escaped criminal continues following ambush of French prison van

The search for the escaped inmate, Mohamed Amra, dubbed “The Fly”, continues as authorities intensify efforts to track him down following a deadly ambush during a prison transfer. The 30-year-old convict, known for his involvement in drug trafficking, managed to flee with the help of four armed assailants who attacked the van transporting him.

The incident, which resulted in the death of two prison officers and injuries to three others, took place at the Incarville toll booth near Val-de-Reuil in Normandy. The slain officers, one a father of twins and the other soon-to-be father, were honored by French President Emmanuel Macron and Minister of Justice Éric Dupond-Moretti, who vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.

With over 200 gendarmes involved in the manhunt, the pursuit for Amra and his accomplices is ongoing, with Paris Public Prosecutor Laure Beccuau highlighting the severity of the situation. Amra had recently been sentenced to 18 months in prison for aggravated theft before his daring escape.

The French Assembly held a moment of silence in remembrance of the fallen officers, while some politicians, like Eric Zemmour, used the incident to push their anti-immigration agenda. Despite the challenges faced in capturing the fugitive, French authorities remain resolute in their commitment to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure justice is served.
