Secret Service agent’s ‘distressing behaviour’ has no impact on Vice President Kamala Harris

A US Secret Service agent assigned to Vice President Kamala Harris exhibited “distressing behavior” at Joint Base Andrews on Monday morning, leading to hospitalization. The incident occurred while Harris was not present at the airbase.

According to a statement by the U.S. Secret Service, the agent began displaying behavior that colleagues found distressing, prompting their removal from the assignment while medical personnel were called in. Secret Service Chief of Communications Anthony Guglielmi stated, “The Vice President was at the Naval Observatory when this incident occurred, and there was no impact on her departure from Joint Base Andrews.”

Reports from CBS News indicated that the agent was speaking incoherently, spouting gibberish, and even engaged in a physical altercation with another officer, pushing the special agent in charge near the lounge area of Joint Base Andrews. The agent was subsequently handcuffed and detained by fellow Secret Service agents, with ambulances called for medical assistance.

After an initial evaluation, the agent was admitted to a hospital. CBS News noted that there were no signs of substance use contributing to the agent’s behavior at the time. The Secret Service is currently awaiting updates on the agent’s condition before making a decision on their ability to return to duty.

An internal review will also be conducted, potentially evaluating medical and disciplinary implications for the agent’s top-secret security clearance.
