At 111 years old, Englishman John Alfred Tinniswood has been officially recognized as the world’s oldest man by Guinness World Records. Tinniswood, a retired accountant and great-grandfather, credits his longevity to luck, moderation, and a weekly indulgence in fish and chips.
Born in Liverpool in 1912, just months after the sinking of the Titanic, Tinniswood has lived through two world wars and served in the British Army Pay Corps during World War II. Despite his advanced age, he remains in good health, attributing his well-being to a balanced lifestyle. He abstains from smoking, drinks only occasionally, and does not follow any specific diet, except for enjoying a fish and chip supper every Friday.
Tinniswood received his certificate from Guinness World Records at the care home where he resides in Southport, northwest England. Reflecting on his long life, he emphasized the importance of moderation in all aspects of life, cautioning against excess in any form.
While Tinniswood acknowledges the role of luck in determining lifespan, he believes that maintaining a healthy balance is crucial for overall well-being. As he continues to enjoy his weekly treat of fish and chips, Tinniswood serves as an inspiration for others looking to lead a long and fulfilling life.
