At 111 years old, Englishman John Alfred Tinniswood has been officially recognized as the world’s oldest living man by Guinness World Records. Tinniswood, who was born in Liverpool in 1912, has lived through two world wars and served in the British Army Pay Corps during World War II.

When asked about the secret to his long life, Tinniswood attributed it to luck, moderation, and a weekly tradition of indulging in fish and chips every Friday. The retired accountant and great-grandfather emphasized the importance of moderation in all aspects of life, stating that excessive drinking, eating, or physical activity can lead to health issues in the long run.

Tinniswood, who never smokes and rarely drinks, follows no special diet other than his beloved fish and chip supper once a week. Despite his healthy habits, he believes that ultimately, longevity comes down to luck, stating, “You either live long or you live short, and you can’t do much about it.”

The title of the world’s oldest living person currently belongs to 117-year-old Maria Branyas Morera of Spain. Tinniswood’s remarkable longevity serves as a testament to the power of moderation and the occasional indulgence in a beloved tradition like fish and chips.
