PA Secretary of Education Dr. Khalid Mumin recently visited Robb Elementary and Central Mountain Career and Technical Center to gain insight into the District’s approach to educating the next generation of Pennsylvanians. Dr. Mumin, who has a diverse background in education, is touring schools across the state to assess the needs of students and educators and evaluate the impact of state educational investments.
During his visit, Dr. Mumin interacted with students, administrators, and educators, emphasizing the importance of equitable funding in all 67 counties of Pennsylvania. He highlighted the challenges faced by districts with high levels of poverty and the need for targeted support to address equity gaps in education.
Robb Elementary, which serves a student population where 55 percent are economically disadvantaged, has implemented various programs to support students’ academic and social-emotional needs. These initiatives have led to significant improvements in student behavior, attendance, and overall well-being.
Dr. Mumin also had the opportunity to observe a STEM program in action, where second-grade students were learning to code using programmable robots. He expressed excitement about the program, recognizing the importance of preparing students for future careers in STEM fields.
Before concluding his visit, Dr. Mumin commended the educators and administration for creating a positive learning environment at Robb Elementary. In celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week, he presented the staff with a signed banner on behalf of the Pennsylvania Department of Education, thanking them for their dedication to educational excellence.
