Reading Time: < 1 minute

Seniors Maddy Hetland and Audrey Zdunich showcased their impressive skills at the 2A Greater St. Helens League girls tennis championship, securing spots in the semifinals with their stellar performances. Hetland of Mark Morris dominated her match against Washougal’s Avery Berg, winning in straight sets 6-0, 6-1. On the other hand, R.A. Long’s Zdunich faced a tough challenge against Hockinson senior Ashley Suva, whom she had lost to twice in the regular season. Despite falling behind 5-4 in the first set, Zdunich fought back to claim a 7-5 victory before cruising to a 6-1 win in the second set.

R.A. Long coach Rally Wallace praised Zdunich for her patience and determination, which ultimately paid off in securing her spot in the semifinals. Zdunich is set to face off against reigning league and 2A district IV champion Emma Lungwitz of Columbia River, while Hetland will compete against the Rapids’ Jenny Serebriakova, a freshman making her debut in the league tournament.

In other matches, R.A. Long’s Alice Anderson faced tough competition in her quarterfinal match but bounced back in the consolation bracket to set up a match against Mark Morris’ Emme MacArthur. The doubles teams also saw action, with R.A. Long’s Marissa Stacey and Lyla Khlee falling in the quarterfinals but regaining momentum in the consolation bracket.

The tournament is set to conclude on Friday at Ridgefield High School, where the remaining players will battle it out for the championship title. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting tennis tournament.
