Seth Davis is the recipient of the Education Impact Award for May

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Seth Davis, a physical education teacher at Eastern Elementary and Middle School in Giles County, was recently awarded the Education Impact Award for his dedication to his students and the community. What makes Davis’ story even more remarkable is that he not only teaches at the school he attended as a student, but he also coaches varsity basketball there.

When Davis was called down to the teacher’s lounge to receive the award, he was surprised and humbled. “I didn’t know what to expect,” Davis said. “I didn’t know why the principal would call me down to the teacher’s lounge of all places.”

Davis is known for his innovative approach to physical education, incorporating fun activities like dances that kids can perform with their parents. He also organizes sweetheart dances for mothers and sons, fathers and daughters, creating special moments for families to bond.

Principal Jason Mills praised Davis for his dedication to his students, noting that he is the only teacher who sees more than 450 students every day. “He’s a great resource for our students,” Mills said. “He is the kind of teacher parents want for their kids; he is the kind of teacher kids want to have.”

In recognition of his hard work, Blue Eagle Credit Union awarded Davis $250, with the other half going to Eastern Elementary and Middle School. Davis was celebrated by his colleagues with a cake and balloons, highlighting the positive impact he has had on the school community.

Overall, Seth Davis’ story is a testament to the lasting relationships that can be built between teachers and students, and the profound impact that dedicated educators can have on the lives of those they teach.
