Several local boys tennis teams move on to next round & additional updates

In an exciting boys’ tennis Division II Round of 32 state tournament matchup, No. 9 Northampton faced off against No. 24 Oliver Ames on Wednesday afternoon. Northampton came out on top with a convincing 4-1 victory over the Tigers.

The singles matches were dominated by Northampton, with Reilly Fowles, Galen Fowles, and Durrell Patrick all securing wins for their team. However, Oliver Ames fought back in the first doubles match, with Nick Wagner and Brendan Teehan defeating their opponents in a thrilling three-set battle.

Despite the Tigers’ efforts, Northampton ultimately closed out the match with a win in the second singles, securing their spot in the next round of the tournament. Oliver Ames finished their season with a record of 10-8, while Northampton advanced to face the winner of the matchup between No. 25 Melrose and No. 8 Mansfield in the Round of 16.

In another Division II matchup, No. 7 Longmeadow showcased their skills with a dominant 5-0 win over No. 26 Plymouth North. The Lancers’ strong performance in both singles and doubles matches propelled them to victory, improving their season record to 17-3.

Longmeadow will now prepare to face No. 10 Hingham in the Round of 16, with the date and location of the match yet to be announced. The Lancers will look to continue their winning streak and advance further in the tournament.
