Torrential rain wreaked havoc in southeastern Texas on Thursday, causing flooding in Montgomery County and prompting officials to urge residents to evacuate. The storm system unleashed heavy rainfall in the region, with some areas receiving up to 12 inches of rain within 24 hours.

The National Weather Service issued warnings of flash flooding in Houston, including at Bush Intercontinental Airport. The San Jacinto River Authority closed Lake Conroe due to high water levels and began releasing water from the dam, raising concerns about downstream flooding.

Emergency management officials compared the situation to the aftermath of Tropical Storm Imelda in 2019, which brought over 40 inches of rain to some areas. Despite the deluge, no injuries or fatalities were reported.

Road closures were implemented in Montgomery County, particularly along the San Jacinto River, where flooding was most severe. The situation was exacerbated by ongoing rainfall, with more expected through Friday morning.
