Sharjah Ruler participates in the 2nd Animation Conference – Arts & Culture Opening

The Sharjah Animation Conference (SAC) kicked off its second annual edition with a grand inauguration by H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. The event, held at Expo Centre Sharjah from 1st-5th May, aims to boost the collaborative capacities of the animation and creative industries in the UAE and the region.

The opening ceremony was attended by several dignitaries including H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, Chairperson of Sharjah Book Authority (SBA). The diverse programming agenda of SAC 2024 includes 60 events such as workshops, seminars, panel discussions, inspiring speeches, exhibitions, and concerts, led by 70 speakers and animation experts from 11 countries.

H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammed Al Qasimi toured the workshop and discussion spaces at the conference, gaining insights into the creative tools and experiences offered to engage visitors of all ages. The opening ceremony featured speeches by Khawla Al Mujaini, Executive Director of SAC, and Pietro Pinetti, Artistic Director of SAC, followed by a concert by the Florence Pop Orchestra.

Al Mujaini highlighted Sharjah’s commitment to advancing the animation industry in the Arab region, under the leadership of Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi. She emphasized the importance of animation in shaping future generations and conveying narratives to the global community. Pietro Pinetti, Artistic Director of SAC, emphasized the cultural significance of animation as a medium for expressing hopes, values, and collective imagination.

The conference will also host a special celebration for the 30th anniversary of The Lion King, featuring the world premiere of the short film Mushka by renowned animator Andreas Deja. With a focus on strengthening the relationship between publishers, writers, illustrators, animators, and film production companies, SAC aims to position Sharjah as a global capital of creative production.

In her welcome address, Al Mujaini expressed the belief that animation goes beyond entertainment, playing a pivotal role in influencing future societies and expanding horizons. She underscored the responsibility of creators, producers, artists, and professionals in shaping the industry and continuing to enhance the world with beauty and art.

The Sharjah Animation Conference serves as a platform for industry leaders, creators, and broadcasters to come together and foster a creative space where dreams and narratives can soar through the art of animation. With a focus on innovation, creativity, and education, SAC 2024 promises five days of creativity, inspiration, and collaboration in the world of animation.
