The emirate of Sharjah has marked a significant milestone with the opening of the first King Sejong Institute Center (KSIC) headquarters in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. In collaboration with the Department of Government Relations (DGR) in Sharjah, the KSIC aims to promote cultural exchange and collaboration between South Korea and the UAE.

The official inauguration ceremony, held at the House of Wisdom, was attended by dignitaries including Sheikh Majid bin Abdullah Al Qasimi, Director of DGR, and Lee Hai Young, President of the King Sejong Institute Foundation. The event showcased traditional Korean music performances and a K-pop routine, symbolizing the cultural exchange between the two nations.

The KSIC in Sharjah will offer pilot courses at the University of Sharjah in the first half of this year, with plans to expand and introduce regular courses by the second half of 2024. The institute will provide language courses at three levels – Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced – tailored to different industries such as tourism, education, and business.

Sheikh Majid bin Abdullah Al Qasimi highlighted the importance of cultural exchange in advancing international cooperation, while Lee Hai Young expressed gratitude for the opportunity to establish the regional headquarters in Sharjah. The institute aims to enhance cultural exchanges, promote Korean language and culture, and train translators to facilitate communication between Korean and Arabic.

The opening of the KSIC in Sharjah signifies a new chapter in educational and cultural development in the region, offering students and teachers unique opportunities for learning and professional development. With a focus on strengthening bilateral relations and understanding between peoples, the institute is set to become a hub for cultural exchange and dialogue in the MENA region.
