Hinsdale Central senior Alex Kotarski and the Lyons doubles team of Jack McLane and Mason Mazzone made impressive strides in the boys tennis state meet on Friday. Kotarski advanced to the Class 2A singles state championship match after defeating Hersey’s Brent Chen and Fremd’s Andrew Spurck. He will face off against Hersey’s Mitch Sheldon for the title, while his teammate Nathan Hernandez will compete for third place.

In doubles, McLane and Mazzone secured a spot in the Class 2A doubles state championship match by defeating Glenbrook North’s Max Manoshin and Troy Kaneshiro, as well as Fremd’s Amaye Shyani Shashwat Srivatsa. They will go head-to-head with New Trier’s Chris Ackerman and Jovan Morales for the doubles title, while Hinsdale Central’s Barry Zhu and Nicholas Marringa will compete for third place.

Meanwhile, in boys track and field, Lemont’s Quinton Peterson showcased his speed by posting the fastest time in the 110 hurdles and the fourth-fastest time in the 300 hurdles during the Class 3A preliminaries of the state meet. Several other athletes also qualified for the finals in various events, including Hinsdale South’s Amari Alexander, York’s Cash Langley, and Glenbard West’s Mason Ellens.

Overall, it was an exciting day of competition for these talented athletes, and all eyes will be on them as they vie for top honors in their respective events in the upcoming finals.
