Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, has approved a groundbreaking initiative to grant a 10-year Blue Residency visa to individuals who make exceptional contributions towards protecting the environment. This announcement came after a Cabinet meeting at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi, where Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the importance of sustainability in both the economy and the environment.
In a statement, Sheikh Mohammed highlighted the interconnectedness of the economy and the environment, stating that the nation’s direction is clear and consistent in prioritizing environmental protection. The new visa will be awarded to individuals who demonstrate outstanding efforts in environmental conservation, whether in marine or land conservation, improving air quality, or promoting sustainable technologies.
Additionally, the Cabinet agreed to adopt the National Youth Agenda until 2031, focusing on empowering young people economically, enhancing their scientific skills, and promoting their sense of national identity and social contributions. This initiative aims to activate the role of youth in representing the nation and contributing to its development.
Furthermore, a new system for classifying higher education institutions based on quality, future employability of students, scientific research strength, and global prestige was approved. This move aims to enhance the quality of higher education in the country and align it with international standards.
In line with the UAE’s emphasis on artificial intelligence (AI), a new position was established to appoint a chief executive for AI in major federal entities. This decision is expected to accelerate the adoption of advanced technologies across all levels of government, furthering the country’s progress in the field of AI.
The Cabinet also reviewed recent developments in the country’s space sector, noting a 14% increase in spending. Sheikh Mohammed expressed the government’s commitment to supporting the youth in pursuing opportunities in advanced sectors and reiterated the importance of protecting the environment, adopting international technologies, and developing higher education systems.
The announcement follows a meeting between Sheikh Mohammed and President Sheikh Mohamed at Abu Dhabi’s Qasr Al Bahr Majlis, where they discussed the UAE’s progress and strategies for advancing sustainable growth. The state news agency Wam reported on the discussions, highlighting the leaders’ shared vision for the nation’s future development.
