Sherwood Riggleman: Bringing You the Latest News, Sports, and Job Opportunities

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Sherwood “Rig” Riggleman, a beloved patriarch and pillar of the Cross Lanes/Nitro community, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on March 31, 1936, in Elkins, West Virginia, Rig was known for his strong work ethic, mechanical skills, and love for his family and friends.

Rig’s journey began as a paper boy and later led him to a successful career as a salesman for Conwood Corporation. He and his wife, Nora, raised their three children in Cross Lanes, where they became integral members of the community, actively supporting the local schools and church.

In addition to his work, Rig enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching sports, passing down his love for the outdoors to his son and grandsons. After retiring, he dedicated his time to serving his church as the unofficial maintenance man, earning the title of Layman of the Year in 1997.

Rig was preceded in death by his wife, Nora, and is survived by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends. A gathering for family and friends will be held at Tyler Mt. Funeral Home on June 9, 2024, followed by a celebration of Sherwood’s life officiated by Pastors George Webb and J.F. Lacaria.

The family requests donations to the Church Mouse Ministry in lieu of flowers and expresses gratitude to the staff of SNU at St. Francis Hospital, Special Touch In Home Care, and Hospice Care for their loving support. Rig’s legacy of hard work, dedication, and love for his community will forever be remembered by those whose lives he touched.
