Sheyenne High School’s girls tennis team dominates East Region tournament with wins in both singles and doubles events

West Fargo Sheyenne players dominated the East Region individual tournament at Courts Plus, with Sarea Gu winning the singles championship and Alyssa Sommerfeld and Shireen Durrani claiming the doubles trophy. Gu showcased her skills with two-set wins in both the semifinals and finals, defeating tough opponents along the way.

In the doubles bracket, Sommerfeld and Durrani showed great teamwork and determination, winning four straight sets to secure the region title. Their impressive performance earned them a spot in the state tournament, which is set to begin on Thursday, May 30.

Valley City’s Breck Sufficool and Abigail Martinek also had a strong showing in the tournament, earning a two-set victory in the semifinals. However, it was the Sheyenne duo who emerged victorious in the championship match, showcasing their talent and determination on the court.

The state tournament promises to be an exciting event, with top players from across the region competing for the title. Fans can expect to see some intense matches as the best of the best battle it out on the courts.
