Shohei Ohtani and Will Smith lead Dodgers to 3-game sweep over struggling Mets with 10-3 victory – NBC Los Angeles

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Los Angeles Dodgers dominated the New York Mets in a 10-3 victory on Wednesday, completing a three-game sweep at Citi Field. Shohei Ohtani led the charge with a homer and three RBIs, while Will Smith hit two home runs to secure the win.

Smith’s second homer, a tiebreaking solo shot in the eighth inning, sparked a six-run rally that sealed the Mets’ fate. Miguel Vargas and Miguel Rojas also contributed with key hits during the Dodgers’ offensive explosion. Jason Heyward and Rojas added to the onslaught with triples and homers of their own.

The Mets, who have been struggling with a 10-12 record in their last 22 games, couldn’t contain the Dodgers’ potent lineup. Despite a strong start from pitcher David Peterson, the Mets bullpen faltered once again, allowing the Dodgers to pull away in the late innings.

On the injury front, the Dodgers are expecting closer Evan Phillips to return from the IL soon, while Max Muncy’s recovery from a right oblique strain is progressing slowly. The Mets, on the other hand, placed closer Edwin Díaz on the IL with a shoulder impingement and are awaiting imaging results for Pete Alonso’s hand injury.

Looking ahead, the Dodgers will face the Colorado Rockies with Walker Buehler on the mound, while the Mets will send rookie Christian Scott to face the Arizona Diamondbacks in a four-game series. Fans can expect more exciting matchups as the season progresses.
