Sigurjónsson Named Entrepreneur of the Year by EWMA

Guðmundur Fertram Sigurjónsson, the founder and CEO of Kerecis, has been honored with the prestigious President’s Wound Care Entrepreneur of the Year Award by Kirsi Isoherranen, President of the European Wound Care Association (EWMA). This recognition was bestowed upon Sigurjónsson at the annual conference of the European Wound Management Association (EWMA) in London.

The award acknowledges Sigurjónsson’s groundbreaking work in the field of wound healing and tissue regeneration. Under his leadership, Kerecis has developed innovative medical products derived from fish skins, specifically cod skins, at their state-of-the-art facility in Ísafjörður. These products have been instrumental in treating a wide range of persistent wounds, including those caused by diabetes, burns, cutting wounds, and various injuries.

Clinical studies have shown that Kerecis’ fish skin products promote faster wound healing and reduce treatment time compared to traditional methods. This has led to successful treatment outcomes for tens of thousands of patients, primarily in the United States.

Upon receiving the award, Sigurjónsson expressed his commitment to making Kerecis’ products accessible worldwide to improve the health and quality of life for patients with serious wounds.
