Singapore’s Snake-Covered Car Steals the Spotlight from Hollywood

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Singapore has recently made headlines for an unusual reason – car-attacking snakes. Yes, you read that right. A large python was spotted leaping into the air in pursuit of a car tyre in Teck Whye Lane on 27 April. The reason? The sluggish python had recently eaten and was not in the mood to be disturbed.

This incident has shattered Singapore’s boring reputation, following a string of unexpected events involving celebrities like Taylor Swift and Deep Purple. The photos of the python chasing the car tyre have left many in awe of the bizarre encounter.

Fortunately, the Singapore Police Force and Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES) came to the rescue. The police diverted traffic away from the python, while ACRES safely rescued the reptile. The incident even caught the attention of Netflix, which commissioned a shooting script about the python.

This heartwarming story is just one of many recent wildlife encounters in Singapore. Wildlife photographers captured the birth of a Raffles’ banded langur, a critically endangered species, in the wild. The conservation efforts in Singapore have come a long way from the days of culling and hunting wildlife for sport.

The empathy and kindness shown towards the python and other wildlife species in Singapore reflect a positive shift in the nation’s mindset towards coexistence with nature. As Singapore continues to develop, it is crucial to balance progress with conservation efforts to protect the diverse wildlife that calls the city-state home.
