The Student Loans Company (SLC) is urging new full-time undergraduate students in England to submit their student finance applications now to ensure their tuition fee and maintenance loans are confirmed for the upcoming academic year.

With the deadline for applications set for Friday (17th May), students are being advised to apply even if they have not yet secured a place on a course or finalized their living arrangements. These details can be updated in their online student finance account at a later date.

Last year, SLC distributed nearly £22 billion in loans and grants and processed around 1.5 million student finance applications. Given the time it takes to process applications, it is crucial for students to submit their applications now to allow for approval before the start of the academic year.

Jackie Currie, Executive Director Operations at SLC, emphasized the importance of applying early, stating, “In order to have tuition fee and maintenance loan funding in place for the start of term, students should apply for their student finance now. Even if they don’t have a confirmed place on a course or haven’t decided on a university, that doesn’t matter at this stage.”

Students can apply for Tuition Fee Loans to cover fees and Maintenance Loans to assist with living expenses. Additional financial support may be available for students with specific needs, children, or those studying certain courses such as medicine, social work, or teaching.

Don’t delay, apply today to secure your student finance for the upcoming academic year!
