Sleepy Eye Dominates St. Mary’s in Softball Doubleheader

In a thrilling Tomahawk Conference softball doubleheader on Friday, Sleepy Eye showcased their dominance by sweeping St. Mary’s in two decisive victories. The first game ended with a score of 12-2 in favor of Sleepy Eye after six innings, while the second game concluded with a score of 17-2 in just four innings.

Katelyn Tauer shined as the winning pitcher in Game 1, striking out nine batters and allowing only two runs on three hits. Julia Berkner led the offensive charge for Sleepy Eye, going 2 for 2 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Paige Haala also made an impact, going 2 for 4 with a triple, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Taylor Berkner sealed the deal with a two-run home run.

In Game 2, Taylor Berkner continued her stellar performance, both on the mound and at the plate. She struck out three batters and allowed two runs on five hits while going 4 for 4 with two home runs and seven RBIs. Callie Evers and Paige Haala also contributed significantly to Sleepy Eye’s offensive onslaught.

St. Mary’s put up a valiant effort, but Sleepy Eye’s strong pitching and explosive hitting proved too much to handle. Sleepy Eye will look to carry this momentum into their upcoming game against Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop, while St. Mary’s will aim to bounce back against Springfield. The fans can expect more thrilling softball action in the days to come.
