Slovak Prime Minister remains in critical condition while suspect makes court appearance

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico remains in serious condition after surviving an assassination attempt in the town of Handlova. The suspect, a 71-year-old retiree and amateur poet, made his first court appearance in Pezinok as prosecutors seek to detain him.

Fico, 59, was shot multiple times while greeting supporters following a government meeting. He underwent surgery to remove dead tissue and is currently stable but unable to be transported to Bratislava.
