Former Oak Glen High School Superintendent Suzan Smith was honored on Wednesday as the school’s baseball and softball complex was renamed in her honor. The Suzan L. Smith Fields of Dreams, originally established 15 years ago, was a vision of Smith’s to provide a safe and convenient facility for student athletes.

During a ceremony at the complex, current Superintendent Dan Enich praised Smith’s vision and commitment to the school’s athletic programs. Smith recalled how the idea for the complex came to her while she was principal at Oak Glen, watching students drive off-campus to practice at a distant field.

Despite initial challenges with funding, Smith persisted in her efforts to bring the project to fruition. With the support of school board members and the community, a bond levy was established to fund the construction of the Fields of Dreams and other school projects.

Over the years, the Fields of Dreams has been upgraded with new signage, scoreboards, lighting, and turf on both fields. Smith expressed her gratitude for the honor, stating that she will cherish it for the rest of her life.

The rededication ceremony was attended by members of the Oak Glen High School baseball and softball teams, as well as other members of the community. The renaming of the complex serves as a lasting tribute to Smith’s dedication to Oak Glen High School and its athletic programs.
