Actor Sonali Bendre revealed in a recent interview that she almost left the film industry if she couldn’t deliver a good performance in the iconic song “Humma Humma” from the 1995 movie “Bombay”. Bendre, who was relatively new to the industry at the time, faced criticism from choreographers for her dancing skills until she got the opportunity to showcase her talent in the song alongside Raju Sundaram.
The actor shared that there was a common belief back then that one couldn’t become a heroine without knowing how to dance. Determined to prove herself, Bendre trained in Bollywood dancing before the shoot of the song, which was choreographed by the legendary Prabhu Deva.
Despite not being part of the main cast of “Bombay”, Bendre’s performance in “Humma Humma” is still remembered fondly by fans. She recalled how choreographer master Mugur Sundar was impressed by her skills and rewarded her with Rs 100 on set.
Bendre, who took a break from acting after being diagnosed with cancer in 2018, is now set to reprise her role in the upcoming second season of the ZEE5 series “The Broken News”. She expressed her desire for more age-appropriate roles in the industry and emphasized the slow but steady progress towards gender equality in cinema.
The actor’s journey from facing criticism for her dancing skills to becoming a beloved figure in the industry serves as an inspiration for many aspiring actors. Bendre’s resilience and determination to succeed despite challenges highlight her strength and passion for her craft.
