Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has made a significant leadership change by appointing Gaurav Banerjee as its new chief executive officer, replacing NP Singh after his 25-year tenure at the company. Banerjee, who previously worked at Disney Star, brings a wealth of experience in content creation and strategy to his new role.
During his time at Disney Star, Banerjee was responsible for overseeing content for Hindi entertainment and Disney+ Hotstar, as well as serving as the business head for various channels. With a background in journalism, Banerjee started his career at Aaj Tak before moving to Star News and eventually playing a key role in launching the Bengali news channel Star Ananda.
Banerjee’s expertise in content strategy became evident when he joined Star India and led the expansion of regional entertainment channels like Star Jalsha and Star Pravah. His contributions to Star Plus, including hit shows like Diya Aur Baati Hum and Sasural Genda Phool, helped the channel regain its leadership position in 2010.
With a master’s degree in filmmaking and TV production, Banerjee is well-equipped to lead SPNI into a new era of content creation and distribution. His educational background, combined with his extensive industry experience, positions him as a strong leader for the company.
As Banerjee takes on this new role, the industry will be watching closely to see how he steers SPNI towards continued success and growth in the competitive media landscape.
