Amid Hunt For India’s Next Head Coach, Sourav Ganguly Posts Intriguing Message
The search for the next head coach of the Indian cricket team is in full swing as current coach Rahul Dravid’s tenure is set to end after the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. Speculations are rife about potential candidates, with names like Gautam Gambhir and Ashish Nehra emerging as front-runners for the coveted position. Reports suggest that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already approached certain individuals for the role, with less interest shown by foreign coaches.
In the midst of all the buzz surrounding the coaching position, former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly took to social media to share a thought-provoking message. He emphasized the importance of a coach’s influence on an individual’s life, both on and off the field, urging everyone to choose their coach and institution wisely.
While the deadline for coach applications was set for May 27, the BCCI seems to be in no rush to finalize Dravid’s successor. With the Indian cricket team currently focused on the T20 World Cup 2024, it is speculated that NCA coaches may accompany the team on future tours if a decision is not made soon.
A BCCI source mentioned, “The deadline is fine, but the BCCI brass wouldn’t mind taking some more time before reaching a decision. Right now, the team will be busy with World T20 for the better part of the month of June. After that, seniors will be rested from tours of Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe where any of the NCA-based senior coaches can accompany the team. So what’s the hurry.”
As the cricketing world eagerly awaits the announcement of India’s next head coach, the intrigue and anticipation continue to build.
