South Africa and Botswana sprinters secure spots in Olympics with impressive speed and skill

In a display of Southern African dominance, Botswana and South Africa shone brightly at the World Athletics Relays in Nassau, The Bahamas. The thundering strides of Botswana’s men’s 4x400m relay team, led by Isaac Makwala, captivated spectators as they blazed their way to victory with a time of 2:59.73, securing a spot at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Not to be outdone, South Africa’s relay team, featuring Gardeo Isaacs, Zakithi Nene, Lythe Pillay, and Antonie Nortje, showcased their determination and skill as they clinched silver with a season’s best of 2:58.73. Pillay’s impressive final lap surge propelled them to the podium, despite the absence of Wayde van Niekerk in the final.

In the 4x100m relay, South Africa continued their winning streak with a quartet of speedsters – Akani Simbine, Bradley Nkoana, Bayanda Walaz, and Benjamin Richardson – clocking a time of 38.08 seconds, securing their place at the Olympic Games and solidifying their status among the fastest in South African history.
