Southwest Rapid Rewards introduces new Cash + Points redemption option

Southwest Airlines is shaking up its Rapid Rewards program with the introduction of a new redemption option called Cash + Points. This feature allows members to use a combination of cash and Rapid Rewards points to book their flights, providing more flexibility and savings for travelers.

The Dallas-based carrier announced the rollout of Cash + Points on Monday, but not all Rapid Rewards members will have immediate access to this new feature. To see if you’re one of the lucky ones with early access, simply check your Rapid Rewards account.

With Cash + Points, Rapid Rewards members can now see up to five redemption options when booking a flight, starting from as few as 1,000 points. However, it’s important to note that you won’t earn any additional Rapid Rewards points, tier qualifying points, or Companion Pass qualifying points on Cash + Points bookings.

To book a flight using Cash + Points, simply log in to your Rapid Rewards account, search for your desired itinerary on Southwest’s website or app, and select “Cash + Points” as your payment option. You’ll then be presented with up to five payment options combining Rapid Rewards points and cash to cover the cost of your ticket.

While Cash + Points can provide some savings, it may not always offer the best value for your Rapid Rewards points. The Points Guy values Southwest points at 1.37 cents each, so redeeming them for a fraction of your trip may not be the most lucrative option.
