Southwestern Trojans Dominate Chautauqua Lake in Baseball Showdown
In a nonleague baseball game on Monday, the Southwestern Trojans showcased their power at Packard Field in Lakewood, defeating Chautauqua Lake 13-1. The Trojans continued their season-opening success with a strong offensive performance led by seniors Peter Conley and Chase Kartesz.
Head coach Jared Brown praised his team’s hitting prowess, noting that multiple players have shown the ability to hit the ball hard. Conley and Kartesz exemplified this power, with Conley hitting a home run in the third inning to extend the lead to 9-0.
Brown also highlighted the contributions of eighth-grader Wilson Genareo, who displayed fearlessness on the field and contributed to the team’s offensive success. Despite a late rally by Chautauqua Lake, the Trojans maintained their dominance and sealed the victory in the fifth inning.
The game culminated in a walk-off three-run home run by Kartesz, solidifying the Trojans’ impressive performance. Junior pitcher Brody Ellis also shined on the mound, delivering a strong outing and earning praise from Brown for his efforts.
While Southwestern celebrated their victory, Chautauqua Lake’s head coach Matt Cummings commended his team’s resilience and fighting spirit. Despite the loss, Cummings expressed optimism about the team’s progress and emphasized the importance of putting the ball in play.
With both teams looking ahead to their upcoming games, the Trojans’ powerful display of hitting and pitching sets a high standard for the rest of the season. As they continue to fine-tune their skills and work towards their goals, Southwestern aims to build on their early success and maintain their winning momentum.
