Spain holiday warning issued following anti-tourism protest at Palma airport causing travel disruptions as residents predict a busy summer ahead.

Locals in Majorca are gearing up for a summer of intense anti-tourism protests that could potentially disrupt travel plans for holidaymakers. Activists have threatened to block the international airport in Palma, one of the busiest airports in Europe, as part of their radical tactics to protest against the influx of tourists to the island.

At a recent “citizen’s assembly” in the town of Sineu, more than 300 people gathered to discuss the plan to cause traffic gridlock and mass cars outside the airport during peak summer months. The assembly was organized by the Association Menys Turisme, Mes Vida, which translates to “Less Tourism, More Life.”

While the proposed demonstration has not been finalized, activists are considering the legal repercussions they might face and have even discussed setting up a fund to pay potential fines imposed by authorities. Additionally, they have suggested disrupting island hotels to make their demands heard.

Locals have long been frustrated with the avalanche of vacationers each year and the impact it has on their lives. The meeting at Sineu Secondary School was so packed that over 30 people had to watch from the entrance doors.

The mass protests are expected to be finalized in the coming weeks, with more proposals being registered. A separate protest against “tourist overcrowding” is set to take place in Palma next Saturday. Anti-tourist graffiti has been popping up around the island, reflecting the growing discontent among residents.
