Barcelona’s Fermin Lopez Receives First Senior Team Call-Up for Spain Ahead of EURO 2024
In an exciting turn of events, Barcelona youngster Fermin Lopez has earned his first senior team call-up as Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente announced a 29-member provisional squad for the upcoming UEFA EURO 2024 tournament. This marks a significant milestone in Lopez’s career after a breakthrough season at Barcelona.
De La Fuente’s squad includes familiar faces like Dani Carvajal and Lamine Yamal, while Marco Asensio was notably left out. When asked about Asensio’s absence, the coach emphasized the importance of focusing on the players who are present and giving them the recognition they deserve.
Lopez will be joined by his Barcelona teammates Pau Cubarsi, Lamine Yamal, Pedri, and Ferran Torres in the provisional squad. De La Fuente expressed confidence in Lopez’s abilities, stating, “FermÃn is at a very high level, but we have to be cautious. With the National team, many players give another plus and we are sure that he will show us what a great player he is.”
Spain, a three-time winner of the European Championship, is drawn in Group B alongside Croatia, Italy, and Albania. The team will play warm-up games against Andorra and Northern Ireland before kicking off their campaign against Croatia on June 15.
With a strong squad and a sense of unity, De La Fuente believes that Spain is well-prepared for the challenge ahead. The coach emphasized the importance of forming a cohesive group, which will serve as a solid foundation for their EURO 2024 campaign.
