Spartans guide local convoy to Boys State Golf tournament

The Grundy Center boys’ golf team and East Marshall’s Cody Weaver secured victories at the Class 2A district meet, earning spots at the state competition. Grundy Center clinched the district crown through a fifth-score tiebreaker, with Weaver claiming the meet medalist title with a 4-under round of 68. West Marshall’s Hunter Polley also qualified for his state debut with a 1-under 70.

Grundy Center, the reigning 2A state champion, tied with Dyersville Beckman for the low team total of 315. Judd Jirovsky, Sullivan Dirks, Jaxon Kiewiet, and Preston Martens contributed to the team’s success, with Tate Jirovsky’s score serving as the tiebreaker. The state golf meet is scheduled for May 20-21 at Coldwater Golf Links in Ames.

Weaver’s impressive round featured five birdies and just one bogey, securing his spot at the state competition. Judd Jirovsky and Polley also showcased their skills with birdies and solid performances. The competition was fierce, with Western Dubuque, PCM, West Liberty, and West Branch also vying for top positions.

The boys’ golf teams put on a spectacular display of talent and determination, setting the stage for an exciting state meet in Ames. Fans can expect intense competition and impressive performances from these young athletes as they compete for the ultimate prize in high school golf.
