Spencer Strider of the Braves to sit out remainder of 2024 season following elbow surgery

Atlanta Braves pitcher Spencer Strider will miss the rest of the 2024 season after undergoing surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow with an internal brace. The decision was made after Strider complained of elbow discomfort during his last start on April 5, where his velocity was noticeably down from the previous season.

An MRI revealed damage to the ulnar collateral ligament, prompting the need for surgery. Braves manager Brian Snitker expressed disappointment over the news, highlighting Strider’s dedication to the game and his teammates.

The internal brace procedure, as opposed to Tommy John surgery, offers a shorter rehab period, but Strider will still be sidelined for the remainder of the season. The Braves, currently leading the NL East with an 8-4 record, will have to adjust their rotation without their ace.

Strider’s absence adds to the growing list of MLB pitchers dealing with arm injuries this season, including big names like Gerrit Cole, Max Scherzer, and Jacob deGrom. The Braves will have to rely on their depth to maintain their position in the division as they navigate the loss of their star pitcher.
