Spicer of Saints clinches sectional singles championship; St. Charles North takes home team title

Tiernan Price of St. Charles East showcased his exceptional tennis skills at the Class 2A St. Charles North sectional, clinching the singles title in a dominant fashion. In the championship match, Price defeated St. Charles North’s Jonathan Spicer with a score of 7-6, 6-0, displaying a high level of efficiency and control in his game.

With this victory, Price, who boasts a season record of 20-7, secured his spot in the state finals for the third consecutive year. Reflecting on his performance, Price expressed satisfaction with his gameplay, highlighting his strategic approach of targeting Spicer’s backhand during the match.

St. Charles East coach Rob Livermore commended Price for his aggressive and relentless playstyle throughout the match, emphasizing his consistent attack mode. On the other side, St. Charles North coach Sean Masoncup acknowledged Price’s preparedness and competitive spirit, giving credit where it was due.

In the doubles category, Batavia seniors TJ Stras and Erik Warner continued their impressive run by securing a victory over St. Charles North’s Noah Bajuk and Cole Weddle. Despite a brief delay due to Warner rolling his ankle, the duo maintained their composure and sealed the win with a score of 6-3, 6-0.

As St. Charles North clinched their second consecutive sectional team title, the Masoncup brothers from Geneva, Tyler and Aaron, also made their mark by advancing to the state finals in doubles. The sectional tournament witnessed intense competition and exceptional performances, setting the stage for an exciting state finals showdown.
