Texas Men’s Tennis senior Eliot Spizzirri has once again claimed the top spot in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) final singles rankings, marking his second consecutive year at No. 1. This achievement makes Spizzirri only the fourth player in history to finish as the top-ranked singles player twice since the ITA rankings began in 1981, joining the ranks of tennis greats like Steve Johnson and Samdev Devverman.
In addition to his singles success, Spizzirri also made waves in the doubles rankings, securing top-15 spots with two different partners, Cleeve Harper and Siem Woldeab. This feat places Spizzirri in elite company, as only six players since 1981 have been ranked separately with two players in the top-15.
Spizzirri’s dominance on the court was further highlighted by his Longhorn teammates, with Micah Braswell finishing at No. 3 in singles and Gilles-Arnaud Bailly, Jonah Braswell, and Pierre-Yves Bailly also earning impressive rankings.
Throughout the season, Spizzirri spent only two weeks not at the No. 1 spot, showcasing his consistency and skill. His victories over top competitors, including Johannus Monday of Tennessee in the NCAA team quarterfinals, solidified his status as a force to be reckoned with in collegiate tennis.
As a result of his outstanding performance, Spizzirri, along with Micah Braswell, qualifies as an ITA All-American in singles, while Spizzirri and Harper earn the honor in doubles. This marks the sixth and seventh All-America honors of Spizzirri’s career, further solidifying his legacy as one of the top players in collegiate tennis.
