Spring Lake and Grand Haven advance to Final Four in Muskegon-area soccer regionals

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Grand Haven and Spring Lake girls soccer teams made history on Thursday night as they secured their spots in the state semifinals with impressive victories.

Grand Haven’s girls soccer team secured their first-ever trip to the Division 1 state semifinals with a 1-0 win over Portage Central. Gillian Sorrelle scored the lone goal off a header in the first half, assisted by Mya White. The Buccaneer defense, led by keeper Hannah Taylor, held strong to secure the historic win. Grand Haven will now face Hartland in the state semifinals on June 11.

Meanwhile, the top-ranked Spring Lake girls soccer team advanced to their second Final Four in four years with a 3-2 victory over Midland. The Lakers scored three goals in a 14-minute burst in the first half, with goals from Kiele Stephenson, Aveya Patino, and Clare Howe. Despite a late rally from Midland, keeper Jessica Stewart made crucial saves to secure the win. Spring Lake will face the winner of Stevensville Lakeshore and Holland Christian in the state semifinals on June 12.

Unfortunately, the Fremont girls soccer team fell short of their Final Four bid with a 2-0 loss to Freeland in the Division 3 regional finals. Despite a valiant effort from keeper Hallie Snyder, Freeland’s early second-half goals proved to be the difference. Fremont finishes the season with a 16-5-1 record.

Overall, it was a historic night for Muskegon-area girls soccer, with Grand Haven and Spring Lake making their mark in the state semifinals. Fans can look forward to more exciting action as these teams continue their playoff journey.
