St. Catherine Hospital’s Exceptional Black Patient Outcomes Recognized by U.S. News & World Report During Black Maternal Health Week 2024

St. Catherine Hospital Recognized for Excellence in Black Maternal Health

St. Catherine Hospital has been honored for its exceptional support of Black maternal health by U.S. News & World Report during Black Maternal Health Week 2024. The hospital’s CEO, Leo Correa, expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating that the hospital’s efforts in promoting health equity have led to positive outcomes for Black maternal patients and their newborns.

Out of all the High-Performing Maternity Care Hospitals in the country, only 26 were identified by U.S. News as achieving outstanding results in cesarean section and unexpected newborn complications among Black patients. These hospitals, including St. Catherine Hospital, were rated as High Performing in U.S. News’ Best Hospitals for Maternity Care, serving a minimum of 20 Black patients annually with low rates of newborn complications and C-sections.

Jennifer Winston, a health data scientist at U.S. News, emphasized the importance of celebrating the success of these hospitals during Black Maternal Health Week 2024. The recognition highlights the ongoing commitment to health equity and improving access to maternity care for women, particularly within the Black community.

Founded by the Black Mamas Matter Alliance (BMMA), Black Maternal Health Week is observed annually in April as part of National Minority Health Month. This year marks the seventh annual celebration of Black Maternal Health Week, with the conversation being encouraged on social media platforms using #BMHW24.
