St. Catherine Hospital Recognized for Excellence in Black Maternal Health

St. Catherine Hospital has been honored by U.S. News & World Report for its outstanding support of Black maternal health during Black Maternal Health Week 2024. The hospital’s CEO, Leo Correa, expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating that it validates their commitment to health equity and the positive outcomes they have achieved for Black maternal patients.

Out of all the High-Performing Maternity Care Hospitals in the country, only 26 were identified by U.S. News as excelling in providing care for Black patients during childbirth. These hospitals demonstrated exceptional outcomes in cesarean section rates and unexpected newborn complications among Black patients, with St. Catherine Hospital being one of them.

Jennifer Winston, a health data scientist at U.S. News, praised the recognized hospitals for their dedication to advancing Black maternal health. She emphasized the importance of celebrating their success and promoting women’s access to quality maternity care.

This year marks the seventh annual celebration of Black Maternal Health Week, with the conversation being encouraged on social media platforms using the hashtag #BMHW24. St. Catherine Hospital’s recognition is a testament to their dedication to supporting Black maternal health and promoting health equity in their community.
