State Match Unites Florida Teams in 4-H Archery Community

Florida Youths Show Dedication and Skill in Archery Competition

In a world where traditional sports like baseball and soccer reign supreme, Florida youths are showcasing their talent and dedication in the sport of archery. The Florida 4-H State Archery match took place over the weekend at the Easton Newberry Sports Complex, drawing young archers from across the state.

Coach Curtis Nutter, a 35-year-old mentor for the Countryside 4-H archery group in Alachua County, emphasized the valuable lessons that archery teaches kids, such as challenging themselves, responsibility, and dedication. Nutter, who was a 4-H participant himself as a child, was impressed by the number of clubs in Florida compared to his hometown in Oklahoma.

The competition featured different age groups, ranging from juniors aged 8 to 10 to seniors aged 14 to 18. Participants engaged in FITA and 3D shooting events, with targets including foam animals like deer, turkey, and boars. Families and friends showed up to support the young archers, creating a lively and supportive atmosphere.

One mother, Jennifer Lillie, shared her pride in watching her children, Hadassah and Chris, compete in the event. Hadassah, who started archery at the age of 3, expressed her love for the sport, while Chris competed in the senior group. Lillie praised the camaraderie among the kids on the team and the leadership skills they displayed.

Overall, the 4-H archery community in Florida is fostering a supportive and engaging environment for young archers to learn and grow. With a focus on skill development, teamwork, and fun, the future looks bright for these aspiring archers.
