Parkersburg South’s boys track team made a strong showing at the state track meet in Charleston over the weekend, finishing in 10th place in the Class AAA competition. The highlight of the meet for the Patriots was their victory in the 4×400 relay.

Lead leg Anthony Ott set the pace for the team, giving them an early advantage that they held onto throughout the race. Chase Anderson, Landon Meredith, and anchor Jordan Foster maintained the lead, crossing the finish line with a time of 3:25.65 to secure the gold medal. The team finished more than three seconds ahead of the runner-up, Morgantown.

Foster, a sophomore, expressed his excitement and pride in the team’s performance, especially after a disappointing showing at regionals. He also earned points for Parkersburg South by finishing third in the 300 hurdles and seventh in the 110 hurdles.

In addition to their victory in the 4×400 relay, the Patriots also placed fifth in the 4×200 relay. Overall, it was a successful meet for the team and a testament to their hard work and dedication.

Meanwhile, Roane County’s Lane Watson defended his Class AA title in the 300 hurdles, showcasing his speed and skill on the track. Despite not cracking the top 10 in the team standings, Watson’s individual success was a highlight of the meet for the Raiders.

Overall, it was an exciting weekend of track and field competition in Charleston, with standout performances from Parkersburg South and Roane County athletes.
